
Luis F. Ruiz-Pacheco

Luis F. Ruiz-Pacheco is a Peruvian composer, theorist, educator, and violinist. He completed the Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition and the Master of Music in Music Theory Pedagogy at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he studied composition with Kevin Puts. He also holds a Master of Music in Composition from Texas State University, where he studied with Michael Ippolito and received the Excellence in Graduate Studies Award, and a Bachelor of Music in Composition, summa cum laude, from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, where he studied with Alfonso Fuentes.
Ruiz-Pacheco writes orchestral, chamber, choral, and vocal music. Orchestras, chamber ensembles, choirs, and solo performers in the United States, Peru, Puerto Rico, Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, Mexico, Norway, and Spain have presented his work, including the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Arequipa, the Orquesta Filarmónica Juvenil de la Universidad Católica San Pablo, and the Young Artists Concerts Orchestra of Puerto Rico. He is a member of the Circle of Composers of Peru (CIRCOMPER) and a co-founding member of Opus XXI–Arequipa.
His distinctions include the Ada Arens Morawetz Memorial Award in Composition and the Kent Finlay Scholarship. Música orquestal peruana 1945–2020 by Clara Petrozzi references his work. He occasionally performs as a violinist and conductor.
